Dear Friends,

I joined Friends Seminary in 2016, around the same year the School installed the climbing wall in the gym. It has always intrigued me. So I leapt at the chance to climb when Deanna Petrucci, Chair of Physical Education, offered a training session for faculty and staff.

The most surprising lesson that I learned during our five-hour session was that climbing is the ultimate team sport. All the climbers had to work together to ensure everyone’s success and safety. It was also fun to spend time with colleagues from other departments, especially Annah Heckman ‘15, an experienced climber. Annah teaches an Upper School climbing class every Wednesday at 7 AM, before she starts her day job as Associate for Service Learning and Civic Engagement.

Friends is a place where the entire community has an opportunity to learn and grow in big and small ways. Whether climbing, attending a lecture or leaning into silence, please take advantage of all this community has to offer. Happy reading!

In friendship,

Rebecca Holmes

Director of Major Gifts and Planned Gifts
