Artists Show Support of Friends

Fine art photographer Karen Jordan Kelly GP’26, ’28 (pictured above) is one of four grandparents who have contributed works to the annual Contemporary Art Auction, which is part of the annual Benefit. Stand By Me was shot outside a clothing store in Venice in 1999 and was featured in her first solo exhibition in 2001. Karen comments, “I wanted to donate this particular image because it conveys a sense of solidarity and acceptance that captures the spirit of Friends. And 24 years later, the platform pumps struck me as surprisingly contemporary.” Grandparents Susan Anker GP ’25, Margot Bittenbender GP ’26 and Janet Mait GP ’34, ’35 have also donated works.

Proceeds from the auction will go to Artists for Artists, an endowed fund that provides financial aid for the children of artists. The fund, which stands at $189,000, was established at the 2022 Benefit and will support the long tradition of artists who choose Friends for their children. Their presence contributes to an open, inclusive and equitable environment for which the School continuously strives. The Contemporary Art Preview will be held February 23-25 and the annual Benefit on March 9.
