For more than 40 years, the Friends Shelter has provided food, rest and hospitality for up to 14 unhoused adults each evening. Located in the Common Room, which serves as the Lower School gym by day, the Shelter is run by volunteers with support from Friends Seminary and the Fifteenth Street Monthly Meeting of the Religious Society of Friends. For generations, Friends families have helped provide comfort to guests by preparing meals and spending the night, like current volunteer Upper School student August ‘25. To learn more about his experience, read his account in A Night at the Shelter which appeared recently in The Insight: The Student News Sight at Friends Seminary.
